User Manuals
The AMCI absolute SSI rotary shaft encoder is a member of the DuraCoder product family. Utilizing the DuraCoder's resolver based sensor technology, this rotary encoder provides unique position data output in relation to the shaft position, with up to 4096 counts per turn. An available multiturn version allows for up to 4096 counts per turn over 4096 turns.
Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI) has been widely accepted for its high throughput, high accuracy and faster response than other means of connecting sensors. All of these products, including the SSI DuraCoders, connect to AMCI’s SSI interface modules or network based interfaces for easy integration into a machine’s automation architecture.
Other features include Reset to zero and Increasing Count direction inputs. An optional reset button allows the Multiturn SSI DuraCoder’s data to be zeroed without the use of any additional programming equipment or wires.
Every SSI DuraCoder can also communicate over a RS485 link. This functionality includes the ability to both read position data from, and write setup data to, the DuraCoder. Single Turn DuraCoders can be programmed for any value between 2 and 4096 counts per turn. Multiturn DuraCoders can be programmed with Number of Turns and Full Scale Count parameters. The Number of Turns can be programmed to be any power of two between 1 and 4096. The Full Scale Count can be programmed to be any value between (Number of Turns) and (Number of Turns * 4096). Free software for setting up the SSI DuraCoder can be downloaded from the website.

AMCI also offers a USB to RS485 serial converter and cable (Part #C485USB-3) to connect your PC to the SSI DuraCoder.
AMCI's DuraCoder rotary shaft encoders are resolver-based, providing the heaviest duty 2.5" rotary shaft encoder available, anywhere. Several features set this family of rotary encoders apart from the competition; namely, its cost saving durability, field programmability, and wide range of applications.
AMCI resolver-based rotary shaft encoders have earned a "bulletproof" reputation among established machine builders and successful system integrators.
The AMCI DuraCoder product line boasts up to an IP67 rating. Solid shaft and hub shaft versions are available, and both types incorporate an oversized double row bearing that supports shaft loads up to 100 lbs. radial / 50 lbs. axial.

Resolution: | Single Turn = 4096 counts max Multi Turn = 4096 counts/turn & 4096 turns max. |
Direction of Increasing Counts: | default = CW increasing looking at the shaft CCW increasing when power is applied to pin 12, the Direction Input pin, at power up |
Power requirements: | 4.5Vdc to 26.4Vdc | 24Vdc optimal |1.92W |
Increasing Count Direction and Reset Inputs: | Input Voltage Range: OFF = 0 to (0.2 * DC Supply) ON = (0.8 * DC Supply) to DC Supply Input Current: 3.5mA -The Direction Input is read only at power up. -The Reset Input must be active for 100ms, is read on every OFF to ON transition, and can be used a maximum of 8,300,000 times. -An open input is considered an OFF state. |
Data Format: | Multi-Turn Data Format: Single-Turn Data Format: Note 1: The Most Significant Bit is transmitted after the receipt of the first clock pulse. Note 2: The transferred data is always justified with the Least Significant bit. This means that on multiturn units that have been configured for less than 4096 counts/turn and 4096 turns, the leading bits will be zeros. Note 3: If your SSI system generates more than 24 (for Multiturn) or 13 (for Single Turn) clock pulses, than a trailing zero will be added to the right of the Least Significant Bit for every extra clock pulse. |
