| AMCI NEXUS Interfaces & Controllers For Networked
PLCs
Customers seeking true control system integration with their
PLC are no longer reliant on plug-in modules. AMCI’s
NEXUS family of products eliminates PLC dependency, taking
powerful automation controllers and sensor interfaces out
of the rack and plugging them into your favorite network.

Universal PLC Integration:
Functionally the AMCI NEXUS controllers and interfaces deliver
the same level of PLC integration as their plug-in module
counterparts, but with much more flexibility from a systems
standpoint. Rather than limit these versatile products to
one PLC brand or specific backplane, all units are Din-rail
mountable, stand alone, and can be equipped with a network
communication module that allow them to interface with various
controllers. AMCI NEXUS controllers & interfaces integrate
with ANY network enabled PLC using Ethernet I/P, Modbus TCP/IP,
Profibus, ControlNet, or DeviceNet.
The flexibility of a NEXUS controls solution saves time and
money, letting customers choose whatever PLC best meets their
needs, or change PLCs without having to re-specify and repurchase
plug-in modules. And because the NEXUS integrates via network
communication, PLC platforms no longer restrict compatibility
and integration.
Higher Performance:
The performance, features, and capabilities of plug-in module
solutions are often limited by their physical size. Many PLC
modules compromise performance and/or increase costs because
a limited number of I/O and channels are available. Although
compact in size, the larger AMCI NEXUS units allow for designs
and functionality that may not be possible in a plug-in card.
Real Savings – Time & Money:
Because
AMCI’s NEXUS products plug into a network and not the
PLC, you can install these controllers & interfaces in
remote locations, outside of the central controls cabinet.
Customers no longer have to run associated cabling all the
way to the plug-in module which resides in the rack. Instead,
customers can install the NEXUS in a location convenient to
the application and simply run one network cable back to the
controls cabinet, greatly reducing cabling time and costs.
The following example illustrates how an AMCI NEXUS takes
full advantage of your networked control system.
Application Example:
A
machine builder designs and manufactures packaging machines
for both American and European markets. The packaging machines
he builds for his American customers are specified with several
different Allen-Bradley PLCs, whereas his European customers
require various Siemens controllers. However, all of these
machines require high-speed programmable limit switch control
using rotary sensors for position feedback.
Traditionally this machine builder would be forced to specify,
stock, and support a different high-speed PLS controller for
all of the various PLCs, or he could specify a stand-alone
solution and wrestle with integration & compatibility
issues. Either option adds cost to the packaging machine and
extends his lead times. Wherever the machine builder can standardize
his control system and simplify design saves him time and
money, while adding to performance and reliability.
The solution is AMCI’s NEXUS high-speed PLS controller,
available for today’s most popular networks. Specifying
an Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, or DeviceNet version of the NEXUS
PLS for his machines satisfies his American customers using
Allen-Bradley PLCs, and a Profibus or Modbus TCP/IP version
of the same NEXUS unit takes care of his European customers
using Siemens PLCs.
When flexibility, value, and performance play a role in your
PLC control system, think AMCI NEXUS.
